Already this year, nearly 5,000 wildfires have scorched almost 1,500 square miles across the state, an area about the size of Rhode Island. The Ranch Fire in Mendocino, now the largest in California history, has destroyed 282,479 acres alone. The fires have taken almost a dozen lives and hundreds of homes and businesses. Even residents outside of the area are feeling the effects with smoke and carbon monoxide drifting all the way to the East Coast. By some estimates, the state is facing $17 billion in fire damages.
Matching Gifts – Through Swinerton Cares, any donations made by Swinerton employees to assist with relief efforts will be matched dollar-for-dollar by the Foundation. You can donate directly online here to the American Red Cross California Wildfire 2018 campaign.
In addition to matching funds, the Foundation will donate $5,000 to the American Red Cross.
Most charities prefer monetary donations, especially if you do not live near the affected area. These are more flexible and cause less of a strain on the charity, allowing them to help more.
