On December 18, volunteers celebrated the holidays at the 28th Annual Christmas Party of Parents of Watts, a community organization that provides a wide range of resources to local families. With a special focus on third-grade children and those with special needs, the party was held for 350 children who live and attend school in the Watts community in South-Central Los Angeles, which is surrounded by five housing projects. Parents of Watts is one of many Parent Training and Information Centers funded by the US Department of Education under the Individuals with Disabilities Act. The organization provides programs to improve the lives of families of children with disabilities by connecting families to needed support services and working to improve educational outcomes.
As we approach Thanksgiving and the winter holiday season, we are kicking the giving spirit into high gear with our Fall Giving Challenge! This year, Swinerton employees are engaging in a little friendly competition to see which office can collect the most points—earned through fundraising, donation of goods, and volunteer hours. The top three teams will choose a charitable organization to receive a check from The Swinerton Foundation.
This fall, The Swinerton Foundation held its biennial Swinvitational golf tournament in San Diego, welcoming 124 participants from 33 different companies. Because of the generosity of participants and sponsors, The Swinerton Foundation is able to donate money to the various charities and organizations it supports. In one of the most successful tournaments to date, the effort easily surpassed 2011’s fundraising totals and raised an estimated $85,000.
